Discover the way to access one of the most beautiful maritime corners of our island; The natural pool of Los Gigantes, Tenerife.
The coast of our island offers wonderful corners and landscapes hardly comparable with any other place in the world. Just a short distance from our hotels you will find the natural swimming pool of Los Gigantes. A fantastic place to enjoy the sea water, to share an afternoon in the sun with the family or to watch the best sunsets on the island of Tenerife.
Located in a unique place,, in the municipality of Santiago del Teide, this natural swimming pool has been man-made to improve safety and make it a comfortable and safe bathing area. The Los Gigantes area can have heavy swell on some days of the year, which is why the pool has an outer wall to protect bathers from moderate swells. In addition, there are several accesses and stairs to get to the pool, the most common being the Boca Cangrejo Urbanisation.
The access is quite easy, crossing a long row of steps that lead directly to the bathing area. This downhill walk will take you to one of the most beautiful landscapes on the island of Tenerife, the spectacular views of the cliffs of Los Gigantes.
A magical sunset
Jarod Kintz used to say that he could lick the sunset and bet it would taste like Neapolitan ice cream. That's how wonderful the sunsets are at Los Gigantes. Located in the northwest of the island of Tenerife, we have a privileged location to observe this phenomenon that happens once a day and that we never tire of seeing.
Sunsets that extend beyond 21:00h in summer time and where you can observe a range of unequalled pink and orange colours. El Arrebol will stick in your memory and will make you never forget Tenerife's sunsets.
Other natural pools in Tenerife
Very close to this natural pool there are many other maritime places worth visiting. Some of them are hidden and secret.
The Cueva del Tancón is located only a few hundred metres from the natural pool of Los Gigantes. This place is quite dangerous if the tide is not favourable. We want to make it clear in this post that it is a place where bathing is not recommended. This cave is a unique natural space with crystal clear waters. Its access is a bit difficult and only suitable with the right footwear and an acceptable physical condition.
Charco de Los Abrigos. If we continue our route towards the south of the island we can find this pool. Crossing a dirt road next to some banana plantations we can find this place of difficult access between Los Abrigos and El Médano. It is a natural swimming pool, surrounded by several adjacent pools and a rocky beach that borders the coast. Many young people take advantage of the high tide to jump from the rocks due to the depth of the pool.
Charco de Golete. This pool is located in the municipality of Güímar. It is surprising because it is located in an area that is not very touristy or beachy. Between the houses of La Caleta or Punta Prieta you can find different natural pools that have been improved over the years due to the volcanic coastline of the area. We are sure you will find tranquillity and very few tourists visiting the area.
